RBS Headquarters

2004 - Edinburgh - Stone

Architect: Michael Laird Architects & RHWL / Client: RBS / Contractor: Mace

The elevations of the new Headquarter for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group create a distinctive modern architecture based on the use of traditional materials. The cladding has been realised using pre-cast cladding units -some of which have a structural role – clad with a German sandstone. On the Main Building 8,500 msq of pre-cast stone cladding – corresponding with approx. 35,000 individual stones – was erected in less than 5 months with a single erection team of 4 men. The use of pre-cast for the cladding has got a dramatically beneficial effect on the site logistics, the program and the quality of the cladding.
